Last Friday was deeply special for me. Before kicking off my 40th LSMSA high school reunion, I had the profound honor of finally meeting Ms. Jo Ann Nicholas, a remarkable and strong woman whom I've wanted to meet for over six years.
Ms. Jo Ann is the mother of Rhogena Nicholas and grandmother to Angie. Tragically, Rhogena and her husband, Dennis Tuttle, were murdered in a devastating botched no-knock raid by Houston Police Department. The murders of Rhogena and Dennis deeply affected their entire family, including Jo Ann's son, John Nicholas, who tragically passed away three years ago from a heart attack brought on by immense stress and sadness. My heart has long felt heavy with compassion for their family. My group, We the People Organize, was formed to get justice for their families and to change protocols for no-knock warrants nationwide.
I brought flowers to Ms. Jo Ann—purple, Rhogena's favorite color. She loved the flowers. Her warm smile and lively spirit truly moved me, reminding me of the resilience and strength within their family.
My sincere gratitude to Patricia and Angie Nicholas for arranging this heartfelt meeting. Your kindness made this special moment possible. See y'all on May 5th for the civil trial!!
